Couleecap’s Program Provides the Space To Turn Things Around

Life can often throw us curve balls in one form or another, and sometimes people can find themselves in difficult situations unsure of where to turn. During these times, getting help from skilled and kind community partners can make a world of difference.
One of those stories belongs to Shane Duffy. Previously in life Shane had struggled with addiction which had also caused him to become insecure in his housing. As he began his journey to recovery, Shane connected with Couleecap’s Rapid Rehousing Program and was able to find stable housing and get back on his feet. Now, Shane works to make a difference in the lives of others.
“Between working on myself, utilizing various resources in the community and working with places like Couleecap, I have discovered how the idea of my life’s experiences, have in fact been a gift,” Shane explained. “The primary challenge in my recovery was rebuilding from essentially nothing, having lived on the street out of a backpack for approximately four years. I was accepted into Couleecap’s Rapid Rehousing Program which helped me with the housing I needed to get back on my feet. I also worked closely with my case manager to utilize local resources to help with that process. The time I was given with the Rapid Rehousing Program allowed me the initiative and space to gain stable employment, focus on my recovery and turn things around. I am currently working as a certified recovery coach at the Coulee Recovery Center, helping others with similar goals.” Couleecap programs, such as our Rapid Rehousing program, serve thousands of people in the Coulee Region each year. These programs are possible because of the generous financial support we receive.
