Support Local Families in La Crosse County Through Property Donation or Sale

Donating or selling your property is a powerful way to support families in your community. Through the Thriving Families of La Crosse County initiative, Couleecap is seeking single-family homes, duplexes, and triplexes for donation or purchase. These homes will provide safe, stable housing for local families experiencing homelessness.

This process is simple, cost-free, and provides a maximum tax deduction for donations.* You’ll be helping families build a foundation for long-term success while putting your property to meaningful use.

How It Works

1. Contact Us

Tell us about your property. Helpful details include:

  • Property address
  • Owner name
  • Type of property (single-family, duplex, or triplex)
  • Square footage
  • Number of bedrooms
  • Current status (rented, owner-occupied, or vacant)
  •

2. Property Review

We will review the property with you. This may include:

  • A title search
  • A tax and lien review to ensure eligibility
  • A walk-through of the home
  • A review of the property’s size, location, and condition

3. Paperwork and Closing

If the property qualifies, Couleecap will make a cash offer. For donated properties, an appraisal will be ordered and a home inspection (paid for by Couleecap) will be included as part of the review process. We’ll discuss any needed negotiations before closing.

Once the property has closed, you will receive a tax deduction certificate if applicable.

You Can Help Families Thrive

Thriving Families of La Crosse County is a collaborative initiative between Couleecap, Catholic Charities, and La Crosse County. The program provides low-barrier, safe, stable housing for families for up to two years, while they receive case management and supportive services from La Crosse County staff.

Couleecap and Catholic Charities—both experienced nonprofit housing organizations—acquire and manage homes throughout the county. Your property donation or sale helps expand this life-changing work.

Take The Next Step

If you’re interested in donating or selling a property, we’d love to hear from you.

*All donations are tax-deductible. Tax deduction is based on the Fair Market Value (FMV) or the difference between FMV and the sales price.
