Temporary Motel Stay was Key in Transition to Stable & Secure Housing
I was able to stay in a motel until I was able to get housing,” -Heather Couleecap Participant
In rural communities, homelessness often looks different than we may expect. Without homeless shelters directly in our more rural communities’ families can sometimes be left feeling like there is no place to turn. That is where Couleecap’s rural Homelessness Prevention Program can help.
Heather is a rural resident of our service area who found herself experiencing homelessness with her three small children and infant. She was struggling with a bad rental record and consistent employment and reliable income.
“I was in a real bad place, and they (Couleecap) were a real-lifesaver,” Heather shared about her experience prior to and with working with Couleecap. “Couleecap helped me get back on myfeet and get my stability back. I don’t know what I would have done without this assistance.
”Through Couleecap’s Homelessness Programming and the support of her caseworker, Heather was able to transition staying in a motel with her children until she was able to find stable and secure housing.
“I was able to stay in a motel until I was able to get housing,” Heather reflected. “I really liked working with my case manager, he actually cared about me and understood what I was going through. I now actively recommend Couleecap to people.”
Couleecap programs, such as our Homeless Prevention program, serve thousands of people in the Coulee Region each year. These programs are possible because of the generous financial support we receive.
